GNSS View is an independent, open-source project for exploring predicted satellite visibility and learning the geometry behind navigation.

What you can do here

Choose an observation position and time, inspect predicted sky directions, compare constellations and study geometric dilution of precision. The field guide connects each concept to an interactive experiment. GNSS View does not determine your position from satellite measurements; browser location, when requested, is an input to the prediction.

Data and method

Orbital predictions use CelesTrak GNSS general perturbations data and PyEphem. The backend maintains a shared TLE cache and a bundled fallback; the observatory shows source, element epoch and staleness. DOP uses an unweighted east–north–up geometry model with one receiver-clock parameter. Tutorials label schematic and historical cases separately from current predictions.

What the model does not establish

Geometric visibility does not confirm signal health, receiver support or an unobstructed path. TLE-based predictions and DOP are not a guarantee of positioning accuracy, survey readiness or safety-critical performance. Check actual conditions and appropriate equipment for your task.
